Rock Music?

I always thought that rock music with guitars and stuff. But a lot of pop bands use guitars, as well as some rap songs, and as a bit of classical music and jazz. So what separates rock music outside those genres?

Whats a good acoustic rock, punk, alternative, or a popular song to learn to play?

Looking for acoustic rock, punk, alternative, or a popular song that has a lot of picking and strumming not soo much either that some agreements or crazy.
